These certainly are new days for singer-guitarist Travis Meeks. A mere 18 when his band's self-titled debut hit with singles including "Shelf in a Room" and "Touch, Peel and Stand," 1999 finds the 20-year-old frontman minus his former Days of the New band mates and plus a new female singer and lineup. These radical departures could easily have spelled disaster, but 2, a year in the making, is a surprisingly mature and powerful pastiche of classic-rock leanings mixed with the headiness of a modern Doors, some slight Southern accents, and the acoustic leanings of a Led Zeppelin. Neither as dark nor as vocally Pearl Jam-ish as the band's debut, this ambitious sophomore outing borders on the pretentious and self-indulgent at times, but is ultimately a triumph. Meeks plays most of the instruments, and the orchestral arrangements and vocals of 20-year-old Nicole Scherzinger work beautifully (especially on the buoyant "Bring Yourself") with the energetic acoustic guitars and varied and abundant aural accents. Not a singles-oriented outing, 2 presents a potent and emotive musical soundscape that's complex, spacious, and diverse. Katherine Turman

This album is incredible! The album is an excellent rock album, with a great Irish sound to it. The instrumentals all have an Irish sound to them. I really like Travis's voice much better in this album than in his first one. It appeals to me a whole lot more than in "I", and his voice really sounds like it totally belongs with the instrumentals of this amazing album, maybe even more so than in "I". Excellent work, Days Of The New! I like his first album a lot too; don't get me wrong. But this one appeals to me a whole lot more. The album also has a great feel of honesty, ingenuity, and clarity. The album also keeps a great rhythm throughout and the songs blend into each other, from one song to the next song. Superb album!

I think we sometimes under-estimate the ability of young artists. Travis definately pulls together a great album this time around. The first time I heard DOTN, I didn't think I'd like it much, so I left it alone for a while. Then I found myself playing them more and more, until it is always on. You need to let this album grow on you, 'cause once you do, you will not be able to stop playing it. If you like these guys, may I suggest Brother Cane. "Seeds" and "Wishpool" are must have albums. You will NOT be disappointed!

Something totally different from Travis Meeks -- the most innovative and intriguing album to be released in the last year! This record places DOTN with other southern legendary rockers as The Allmans and R.E.M. Amazing in its use of orchestra and chorus -- who'da thunk it?!?! May be too brilliant for radio or MTV. To be listed to at home and very attentively.

I would be a fool if I labled this new CD "bad" or "a waste." Then I'd be lying because there is some good stuff to be found here. Perhaps I was expecting more music like the single Enemy on this album. It's facinating though because Travis Meeks doesn't deal with only rock, but introduces an eclectic variety of different musical genres on this CD. You may find traces of new age and softer rock here. Unfortunately not all of these new explorations were entirely thought out. To be as honest as I possibly can, this new style just doesn't work. But again I must emphasize that not all the music on this CD are total failures. Enemy of course is an excellent tune as is the following song Weapon & The Wound. But if you are looking for the sounds of the original Days of the New, don't get your hopes up to high.

This album is very different from the first one. With the exception for Travis Meeks, the rest of the line up is totally new. Which is cause for a very different sound. While the album doesn't have the acostic masterpieces of the first one, except for maybe Flight Response and Bring Yourself. I brings a very different and new side to DOTN. Especially songs like Enemy which sounds awesome, (it's my favorite song off the album) Weapon and the wound etc. I think DOTN won't go under anytime soon. Travis Meeks is a very intriqing writter/musician, and it shows more in this album than in the first.

I liked this album very much. My favorite song on the album is of course Enemy. It has great accoustics with funky sounds and beats. I am glad I chose this disk and it is a great one to listen to either stoned or tripping Thanks Travis
