Sol

A music player for the files you own.

[Download on the Mac App Store]

$19.99 once, with a 7 day free trial.

Design

Gorgeous, on purpose.

A multipane column browser, a wall of cover art, and a music carousel that glides between albums: the parts of old iTunes that made browsing your own music feel good, brought back and taken to new heights. Designed by a UI/UX lover. Nothing about how Sol looks was left to a framework's defaults.

Playback

Plays everything you already have.

MP3, AAC, ALAC, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, Opus, Ogg, DSD, Monkey's Audio and Musepack all play, so nothing in your library gets left behind.

Sound

Audiophiles, rejoice.

Gapless playback, or crossfade if that suits you better. Sol can match your output device to a file's own sample rate, so nothing gets rounded off, with ReplayGain to keep every track at one steady level. A 10 or 31 band graphic equalizer lets you draw your own curve by hand, save it, and flatten it in one click when you just want to hear the record as it was mixed.

Performance

Built for libraries of any size.

Built on a purpose-built in-memory library index and SFBAudioEngine for playback: a foundation designed to stay fast at hundreds of thousands of songs, with a render path measured in microseconds.

Tags

Your tags. Actually correct.

Edit one song or a whole album at once: title, artist, composer, grouping, BPM, sort fields, and a classical section for work, movement and conductor. Find and replace across your whole selection, with regular expressions if you want them. Look up MusicBrainz to fix a messy rip, or pick real cover art from the Cover Art Archive instead of guessing. Ratings and loves are written into the files themselves, so they belong to you, not to Sol.

Smart playlists

Playlists with real rules.

Nest rule groups across more than thirty fields, from rating to sample rate to play count. Match counts update live as you build, so you always know what you're about to save before you do.

Sources

Your library, here, there, and everywhere.

Add as many music folders as you want: on your hard drive, a removable drive, a network share, or a Navidrome or Subsonic server. Sol notices the moment a drive or server goes away, greys it out gracefully, and picks it right back up when it returns.

Podcasts & radio

Your other kind of listening, at home too.

Subscribe to any show, download episodes as real files, and pick up right where you left off, with chapters and transcripts along the way. Add any internet radio stream and Sol finds its logo on its own.

Sol DJ

An endless mix you steer.

Favor loved tracks, boost discoveries, or avoid repeats. Sol DJ builds a radio-style mix from sliders, not guesswork, tuned by each song's tempo, key and energy, and keeps the queue topped up for as long as you're listening.

Statistics

Your listening, in numbers.

Scrobbles, listening time, top artists and albums, from today back to all time. Straight from your own play history, or from your Last.fm profile if you prefer.

Search

Everything, one box away.

Songs, albums, playlists, and podcast episodes, across every library and server you have. Type a few letters and it's already there.

Automation & integrations

Fits into how you already work.

Real AppleScript support and sixteen Shortcuts actions for building your own workflows. Scrobble every play to Last.fm, with loved track sync back into Sol. Show what's playing on Discord through the free Sol Activity companion. Pair with Gramola's edge-of-screen shelf over Sol API, a local connection that never leaves your Mac.

And also

Mini player

A tiny, borderless square where the album art is the whole player.

Cue sheets

One album file split by a .cue plays as separate tracks, each seeking to its own segment.

Synced lyrics

Lyrics that follow along with the song, pulled automatically when they exist.

Duplicate finder

Find the same track twice, even when one copy lives on a different server.

Folder watching

New files show up on their own. No rescanning by hand.

Global playback keys

Play, pause and skip from anywhere, even when Sol is not in front.

34 languages

Fully translated, not machine pasted over the English original.

Pairs with Gramola.

Turn on Sol mode and Gramola's edge of screen shelf lists and plays your Sol library. Everything stays on your Mac.

Meet Gramola

Requires macOS 26 or later. Sol reads and plays your own files. It never uploads your music.
